Defend Stafford Hospital! Defend NHS workers!

At a public meeting last night, jointly organised by Stafford Socialist Party and Staffordshire Trade Unionist & Socialist Coalition, it was reported that over 2000 people have already signed Stafford Socialist Party's petition calling for the repeal of the Health & Social Care Act and to Defend Stafford Hospital.

The names were collected on campaigning stalls in Stafford, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Stoke, Rugeley, Burton-on-Trent. This demonstrates the widespread opposition to the government's attempt to dismantle the NHS and hand it over to private companies through the Health & Social Care Act and in particular to the threat of closure of Stafford Hospital.

The meeting unanimously agreed to build support for the newly formed 'Support Stafford Hospital' mass march on 20 April by

•leafleting

•continuing our campaigning stalls across Staffordshire

•holding a protest rally with speakers in Market Square on Saturday 6 April at 11am
